Welcome to the Trauma Informed Somerset Network!
The Trauma Informed Somerset Network is a space that offers connection and embraces the value of trusted and healthy relationships. We celebrate the strength, personal growth, innovation and creativity that can grow from adversity and experiences of trauma.
What is the Network?
The Network allows practitioners from a range of organisations and diverse backgrounds to link, share best practice and learn together to create a Somerset-wide culture of practice.
We aim to build awareness about trauma informed and share sensitive practice across the workforce, to help to achieve positive change within families and organisations.
We would like to thank the students of Yeovil College, Somerset for co-producing our logo and for over 200 practitioners across different agencies in Somerset who voted to decide the name and aims of our network.
What is being Trauma Informed?
Trauma results from an event, series of events, or set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as harmful or life threatening, and can cause lasting adverse effects on mental, physical, social, emotional or spiritual well-being.
It can negatively affect individuals or communities and their ability to feel safe or develop trusting relationships with professionals. Everyone’s experience is unique and trauma affects people in different ways.
A trauma informed approach realises the impact that trauma can have, and recognises the signs of trauma (in both families and professionals). It also seeks to actively prevent re-traumatisation by avoiding practices that could trigger painful and traumatic memories.
